MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

Authors must adhere to the SCIENCE OF TSUNAMI HAZARDS style requirements detailed below. Upon acceptance, the manuscript will be published online as a PDF within a short timeframe. Please note that significant alterations after online publication will necessitate the publication of an erratum.

FILE FORMAT

Authors may submit their manuscripts in Word format (as .doc or .docx). Word files should not be protected. Ensure that equations in the .docx file remain editable.

PAGE ONE

The first page of the manuscript should list the title, authors (first or second names spelled out in full), full address of the institution where the work was performed, and affiliation of each author. Titles should not exceed 20 words and should generally not contain abbreviations or numerical values. When submitting, please indicate in your email or letter the corresponding author for email communication.

AUTHORS AND AFFILIATIONS

The full names of all authors (the middle name may be abbreviated) should be listed together and separated by commas. Associate affiliations with the author's name using superscript numerals and list as follows: department, faculty, organization, city and country - in italics (see example).

Example:
Gustavo Oses A.1
1Engineering Center Mitigation Natural Catastrophes, Faculty of Engineering, University of Antofagasta, Antofagasta 1240000, Chile

The corresponding author should be marked with an asterisk and his/her exact contact address, e-mail address should be given in a separate paragraph. This information will be published with the article if it is accepted (see example).

Example:
*Jorge Van Den Bosch F, e-mail: Jorge.VanDenBosch@uantof.cl

TITLE

The top half of first page of the manuscript should contain the title of the paper, followed by names of the authors and author affiliation, centered on the page. - Only the first word and nouns should be capitalized in bold (see example).

Example:
Comparative numerical modelling of tsunami waves for the 1 January 2024 Noto Peninsula, Japan earthquake

The bottom half of the first page should contain a structured abstract only with the heading ABSTRACT centered. The abstract should not normally exceed 300 words and should not include references. No information should be reported in the abstract that does not appear in the subsequent text of the manuscript. A listing of 5-10 key words for indexing purposes on this first page could be included, as it would help with searches and search engines.

PAGE TWO, SUBSEQUENT PAGES AND SECTIONS

Begin with the INTRODUCTION and the body of the text on a new second page. The text area should be 22 by 17 cm. (Text size - approximate margins on top 2cm, 5cm, left, right 1,5cm. header and footer zero cm). All new paragraphs should be indented by 5 spaces. Do not number the pages since the final PDF journal will have a different, cumulative, sequential paging order.

SUBSEQUENT PAGES AND SECTION NAMES

In subsequent pages recommended headings, where appropriate, are "Methods," "Results," "Discussion" or "Conclusion," and "References." Do not include tables and figures in the text. Place them after the References section. The Journal Editor will make the final formatting and pagination.

TEXT, FIGURE CAPTIONS AND TABLE CAPTIONS

HEADINGS AND SUBHEADINGS

There should be no more than 4 levels of headings. The font of headings and subheadings should be 12 point regular Times New Roman, and only the first word should be capitalized.
- Headings should be concise and informative.

SUGGESTED ARTICLE LENGTH

Submissions should not exceed the following limits: Editorials, 1,000 words; Correspondence, 1,000 words; Commentaries, 5,000 words; Reviews, 10,000 words; Research Articles, 8,000 words; Meeting Reports, 5,000 words; Workgroup Reports, 8,000 words. All limits include references, tables, and figures. For manuscripts exceeding this length, please contact the Editor for prior approval.
List references alphabetically by the last name of the first author. If the first author has more than one publication, list references in alphabetical order (letter by letter) of subsequent authors. If the first author shares the last name with another first author (Smith JM vs. Smith RB), alphabetize by initials. If you list more than one publication by the same author/group of authors, arrange publications by date, early to late. If you list more than one publication published in the same year by the same author/group of authors, use a, b, c, d, and so on to distinguish the publications.
Finally, authors should double-check all references for accuracy and completeness of information, spelling, accents, symbols, subscripts and superscripts, and italics. Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy of their references. Check the final draft to make sure citations and references match. Any manuscript that is not properly formatted will be returned to the author for correction before review.
