The SCIENCE OF TSUNAMI HAZARDS will consider for publications papers from a wide range of scientific disciplines, encompassing the most basic research to the most innovative technologies. Data reports on tsunami effects, on tsunami runup or other observations on manifestations of the tsunami phenomenon, may be included in the journal together with theoretical or applied research papers. For example, a paper may be included which describes tsunami impacts on agricultural coastal land and strategies for soil restoration in the same issue as papers addressing remote sensing applications to surveying tsunami effects, or papers dealing with seismotectonics of tsunami source mechanisms or mathematical modeling studies of tsunami propagation and energy flux. The content of the Journal is multidisciplinary.
The idea is that the more valid research is published on all aspects of the tsunami hazards, the better, as such inclusion into one single journal, contributes to an online database on which future research can be expanded. Furthermore, scientific debate is encouraged, as this too can lead to new research and discoveries. Opinions and ideas based on scientific observations are welcome for possible publication in the journal in the form of editorials or commentaries. In brief, The Tsunami Society strives for objectivity, significance and scientific quality and balance in publishing SCIENCE OF TSUNAMI HAZARDS.
The journal SCIENCE OF TSUNAMI HAZARDS is a forum for the publishing of original papers and the expression of carefully considered ideas and opinions based on scientific principles.
The Research Section of the journal publishes original manuscripts reporting scientific research on tsunamis. Because of the multidisciplinary nature of tsunami science, research articles may come from any field of basic or applied scientific research, engineering, or mathematics, as well as from related fields of social sciences.
In addition to tsunami research papers and data reports, the journal may also publish or include in the Society's website the following types of articles or announcements:
Publication criteria emphasize:
Prospective authors are strongly encouraged to proofread their manuscripts thoroughly to avoid redundancy and the inclusion of irrelevant data or references.
Publication Fee
Our established international journal, SCIENCE OF TSUNAMI HAZARDS, has been published continuously for 41 years despite minimal institutional support. Our expanded global distribution has significantly increased operational expenses. To partially offset these costs, a publication fee of US $450 is currently charged upon acceptance. This fee contributes to website maintenance, editing, office expenses, supplies, printing, global distribution, and the organization of symposia and training seminars. Payment can be made via credit card or PayPal, and an invoice will be provided by the Secretariat of the Tsunami Society International upon paper acceptance. Notably, authors publishing in SCIENCE OF TSUNAMI HAZARDS receive complimentary membership in the Tsunami Society International for the year of publication.
