ENCELADOC Team Wins Prestigious Award

Aggeliki Barberopoulou, Panayotis Andrianopoulos and Vicki Kouskouna as part of a team called ENCELADOC (a synthesis of a word combining the titan of earthquakes and documentation) were awarded by Stavros Niarchos Foundation Public Humanities Initiative through Columbia University for our work in documenting historical earthquakes. This project was one of 8 awarded from a pool of 350 applicants. Among many things this award supports our work in disseminating information on important historical and recent earthquakes and producing educational materials in the area of historical earthquakes and tsunamis.

Dr. Barberopoulou Brings Tsunami Education to Kalamata Students

Dr Barberopoulou was interviewed on November 7, 2025 by Tharros news for the initiative to install a new seismometer in the Experimental Gymnasium of Kalamata. She also spoke to students about tsunamis what they are and how they can impact our environment. She also provided interviews to local TV stations about this collaboration with the school in Kalamata (watch interview).

Dr Barberopoulou, President of Tsunami Society International was interviewed by Tharros News newspaper in Kalamata for her work with historical earthquakes in the summer of 2023, and about how she chose her career path in geophysics and natural hazards.
